The SDL Special: The Maplestory Tales
Episode 6: The job advancement!

"okay, according to his map, we take a right here, a left there, then another left there, two rights, then a left on Albuquerque... okay what the hell! (Kiyo = >_>)"
"You've got the map upside down dufus"
"Way to go there you little twit..."
Everyone halts simultaneously. Peanuts begin falling from the sky suddenly.
"Holy chit, that's a lot of nuts!"
Random voice overhead: "That'll be 4 bucks baby! You want fries with that?!"
"Oh god... we're stuck in a Kung Pow reference now (Shouri= ), Rei you mind?"
"Don't order me around, I’ll do it but only cause I want to."
"Geez, I can't believe she's STILL mad."
"Field crasher!"

In the Rain Forest North of Ellinia
------------------------------------------------

Shouri: what did you say?

???: Because you bluck Shouri! =P

Shouri: wait, that voice... isn't that! Zero!

Zero: Dynamic Eeennnnnttrrrrryyyyy!

From above a shadowy figure stood on top of a glistening silver bird. The bird began somewhat of a steep dive down towards the group.

Kiyobi: how the hell is he even staying on that thing?!

Zero jumped off his hawk as it curved down parallel to the floor doing a front flip then skidding on his shoes sideways.

Shouri: a bit much there dontcha think?

Zero: It's called Dynamic Entry for a reason.

Shouri: eh... right... Oh yeah guys!

Haar, Kiyo, and Keiko were too busy admiring the hawk to hear him.

Shouri: Hey look free ice cream!

The three: WHERE?!

Shouri: bout time I got your attention. Anyone guys, I wanna introduce you to a colleague of mine. Remember how I went off to search for a job after leaving diamond city? Well, zero here told me about a job as a software designer. I ended up working on modifying this game that we're in right now along with him.

Kiyobi: so what exactly do you do anyways.

Shouri: Well, we- zero and I- were trying to find ways of making this game more appealing. There were too many people doing the same exact thing. So we came up with giving every character a choice of a sub-ability. Haar's weapon mastery is an example of that, but it's still not complete yet. I wonder how it even got implemented if I hadn't even finished it...

Zero: well actually, while you were being your lazy self, I ended up getting it ready to interact with the game so we could test it out.

Kiyobi: So that's why Haar has that frinesay or whatever

At those words Kiyo can be seen flying towards a nearby tree after being blasted by Haar's weapon.

Haar: That's Frinesi you twit!

Shouri: And it also explains why Kiyo doesn't die. The infinite lives "cheat" lets him stay on the field after he should be dead, but in return his attacking ability is greatly decreased for a while.

Zero: Oh yeah Shouri... turns out that since we used your test code, we didn't get the option of choosing our ability. It was probably random.

Shouri: Actually, I made it so that each one of us got a random ability based on our interests and general personalities. There were hundred of abilities stockpiled so we can't really tell what we each got until we happen to find out on our own. You could've at least told me you added it to the game...

Zero: uh... surprise?

Shouri: Oi (Shouri: >_>) Lets go take our tests already...

Kiyobi: I hate tests...

Northern part of the Rain Forest North of Ellinia
-------------------------------------------------

Shouri: Uh I guess that's the guy we talk to

Kiyobi climbs the rope ladder above Shouri somewhat reluctantly.

Shouri: oh come on let’s go take the test already

Assistant: In order to prove that you are ready to make the job advancement you'll have to prove your strength. Please defeat the monsters in the room that I will send you to and collect 60 dark marbles.

Kiyobi: 60?!

Assistant: Well we normally only have 1 person go in at a time and it's usually 30 so deal with it. Both of you shall go in together by Grendel's request.

Scene cut to Ellinia
------------------------------------------------

Grendel: Our four main villages were created to keep peace and to train people in order to protect our society. Yes that is indeed what we tell them.

Dark Lord: Indeed. Deception in order to bring hope to an endangered society... are we really justified in what we have done?

Grendel: I'm not sure. In either case, let us just hope we have made the right choice.

Athena: And if we haven't... if this fails...

Dances with Balrogs: Then we will have no other choice.

Back to the rain forest- within the test area for the job advancement
------------------------------------------------

Shouri: okay let’s get killing already

Kiyobi: I hate tests

Shouri: so I’ve heard >_>

The two found themselves within a shimmering tree. They were actually inside of a hollow tree. Around them various monsters jumped around not really paying attention to the two.

Kiyobi: Well I wanna finish this off quickly so let’s try that sweet move again. Go! Lunar Infliction!

Shouri: Huh... I wonder how it works without solar infliction added onto it.

Just like before Kiyo quickly dashed towards a group of mushroom enemies. His initial claw swipe lifted about four monsters slightly into the air and left a thick trail as the aura around his claw grew thicker. As the monsters remained floating in the air Kiyo disappeared and reappeared somewhat above the monsters releasing the dark aura sphere that had grown around his claw. Kiyo then dove straight down into the group delivering a heavy punch with his right hand. As his hand hit the enemy, he remained upside down and then began circling his foot downwards so as the kick the enemies. The enemies flew towards the tree's inner wall where they were met with a flurry of black icicles raining upon them.

Shouri: and as usual... SO unMaplestory like >_>

Kiyobi: Hey it works so whatever, and now to reap the spoils.

Shouri: If by spoils you mean nothing then yes let’s go get nothing.

Shouri pointed towards the disappearing monsters, none of which dropped a single dark marble.

Kiyobi: all that work for nothing...

Shouri: Come on Kiyo, let’s just go kill more stuff...

The two rushed down deeper into the inner part of the tree killing a few monsters along the way. They found a few of the items that they needed, but still needed plenty more.

Kiyobi: Hey... is someone else in here?

Shouri: huh? Why do you ask?

Kiyobi: hey listen!

Shouri: wait, what?

Kiyobi: hey listen!

Shouri: to what?

Kiyobi: hey listen!

Shouri: I'll feed you to Epona if you say that again. >_>
Author's note: Shouri makes a reference to Kiyo's line coming from an annoyingly repetitive Navy (the fairy) from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. For those who don't know, Epona would be Link's horse.

???: is someone there?

Kiyobi & Shouri: yeah.

???: friendly, or do I have to impale you?

Kiyobi (to himself): oi... what interesting word choice

Shouri: well since I don't like being impaled, let’s go with friendly.

???: good, people call me Space Wind. The girl over there, that's Ara.

Shouri and Kiyobi both looked further down the path and spotted a very interesting figure. She bore a rather large black bow and sported a nearly completely black outfit. Her hat looked like a black military hat which complimented her green eyes quite well. Her brown her was quite long and wavy and extended somewhat past her shoulders. A silver hawk was flying over her with glistening eyes waiting for monsters to come near enough for it to strike.

Shouri (whisper to Kiyobi): She seems kinda... scary...

Kiyobi (whisper to Shouri): I think her bird might eat us...

Ara: Excuse me?

Ara had been standing behind the two for a few seconds at this point.

Shouri: hey check it out! There’s one of those anime marks on her head.

Kiyobi: oh that red plus sign looking thing... I forget what it means though...

Shouri: that would be...

Shouri's words were cut off as Ara smashed Kiyo and Shouri's head into each other

Ara: anger.

Shouri and Kiyobi staggered to get up.

Kiyobi: So why are the two of you here?

Space: Well, about that. You see... so I was casually walking along the mountain roads of Perion...

Flash back to Perion at some arbitrary time
----------------------------------------------------
Space: So let’s see, what do I need for this quest... 50 leaves, and some other random things... eh doesn't sound too hard...

Space continues walking through Perion, finally reaching the portal on the right side of the town.

Space: Hey there uh, Ara. Where's the easiest place to get 50 leaves?

Ara: Um, like... uh... there?

Ara points to a pair of double wooden doors.

Ara: I can't really sleep right now, and I’m bored, so can I tag along?

Space: uh sure... we can go together.

Ara begins tapping her foot. She seems patient at first but then becomes annoyed.

Ara: Either leave your freaking party or send me an invite (Ara: >_<;)

Space: oh right.

The two begin their descent down some ropes and finally reach the double doors.

Space: Hey look its night time...

Ara: uh... I didn't know this game had a day/night system...

???: it doesn't.

Space: so then Mr. GM person thingy... what's going on, is it an event?

Ara: oh event event! There better not be any KSers this time.

GM:(to himself: did I just get called a "person thingy"?) No no this isn't an event. Hmm, I think its best if we got out of here. Eh? What the... I can’t use teleport (author's note: he's referring to the skill teleport)... aww crap not again. I just went through this a little while back with that strange guy and his ridiculous gun.

Space: who?

GM: it doesn't matter. Luckily this time I'm prepared. I'm going to teleport all of us to a random map to be safe. I hope you don't get stuck anywhere, but it’s not like any of us would rather wait here right?

Space: So more or less that's how we got here.

Ara: geez, and I was about to finish Jane's first quest too...

Shouri: any who... how come you're still in here.

Ara: well apparently since we didn't get in via the npc, it won’t let us out.

Kiyobi: well we got in here that way, so maybe we can sneak you out. We just need to gather 48 more of these black thingies.

Space: you mean those?

Ara: Okay! So I was really bored and really pissed. That's what happens when I’m bored and pissed.

Ara and Space point out a mountain twice as big as Kiyo of piled up dark marbles.

Kiyobi: oh chit! Just how long were you in here?

Ara: oh not long... just a few days...

Shouri: a few days?! Oi... well forget about it... lets just get out of here shall we?

Kiyobi: Yeah, let’s just hope something completely random and somewhat clichéic doesn't happen to us.

Dammit Kiyo, you probably just jinxed us. Well that's the end of this chapter. Seriously, I hope Ara never gets that mad at me. Let us pray and have a moment of silence for the poor souls of all of the monsters that she slaughtered. *moment* *moment* okay so that was two moments... sue me. I still don't even know what's going to happen next... hmm. I just thought of something... we all know about Haar’s ability and about Kiyo's but what about these new people? I wonder what they can do.
